Jam with Chrome: Google reinvents browser-based band practice (video)

Google lets your band practice online with Jam with Chrome video

Wish you could spend your downtime practicing your guitar licks with your friends, but lack a garage and / or sympathetic neighbors? Google's just made both problems moot with its browser-based music service, Jam with Chrome. Unsurprisingly, Chrome users can invite up to three friends to join in a practice session, controlling synthesized instruments straight from the browser. We've been trying it for the last few minutes and it's still a little fussy when it comes to actually, you know, inviting your friends in, but when that minor issue is resolved, we've got big hopes that The Engadgets will knock that Bieber fellow off the top of the charts.

Download Chrome 23 And Get Optimized GPU Acceleration And “Do Not Track”

The Stable version of Chrome 23 has already been announced by Google. The update includes some interesting additions and bug fixes. There are a few nice features that come along with this upgrade. For example, the load on your system’s CPU will be consistently reduced with new support for GPU-accelerated video decoding. And considering that the video card needs less power than the processor, this can lead to an extended battery life (Google claims that it can be extended with up to 25%), in case you have a laptop or tablet.

Also, you can access sites that require permissions more easily as the browser features a page icon in the address bar which allows you to view the current permission and change it (you don’t need to search through the Settings dialog anymore. Google Chrome 23 also features a new “do not track” option, though the company itself admits that the option is not always effective and they will further work to improve it.

The company has announced that the Dev version of Chrome has been updated to 24.0.1312.5 for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome Frame. This particular release is not as intriguing because it only brings some minor optimizations and bug fixes.

If you already have Google Chrome installed on your system, then the auto-updating feature will provide you the new version. However, if you don’t have the browser yet, you can get Chrome 23 using this link.
