Shopper discovers Nexus 10 on display at local Walmart

You gotta love Walmart. Not only are they the low priced leader, they always seem to let product slip out before its official street date. Take the Nexus 10 that — although not launching official until November 13th in the Google Play Store — was discovered by a late night shopper for sale at his local Walmart store. While he wasn’t able to purchase the tab (the source indicated that there wasn’t anybody around to help him), the fact that the Nexus 10 is on display, price tag and all, means there’s a good chance someone will walk out of the store with it. All it takes is one clueless employee to ring up a customer looking to get the jump on that official launch date. And with that, I’m off to my local Walmart in my jammies to see what I can dig up. Apple Reading A Retina Display For The iPad Mini

iPad Mini was announced by Apple in late October and debuted on November 2nd. One of the biggest drawbacks of the iOS 6-powered slate is the display resolution, which is not on par with the ones of its competitors, Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD.

It seems though that apple will fit a Retina Display in iPad Mini 2, as the Cupertino-based company is already developing a new screen with their AU Optronics partners. A China-based website has received details from a source inside Apple’s partner, claiming that the Retina Display for iPad Mini will enter production in the second half of 2013. It seems that we are talking about a 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels and a pixel density of 324 ppi.

Basically the resolution and the pixel density of the current iPad Mini will be doubled. Apple had no alternative than launching an iPad Mini without Retina Display, meant to test the market and keep the production costs as low as possible, then introduce a better display on the next gen. Rumors like this one will definitely harm current iPad Mini’s sales, but it don’t see Apple launching the next-gen 7.9-inch slate sooner than fall of 2013.

I remind you that iPad Mini sports a 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels, being powered by an Apple A5 processor clocked at 1 GHz. The tablet comes with a PowerVR SGX543MP2, 512 MB of RAM and has 16, 32, or 64 GB of internal storage. The front facing camera can handle HD FaceTime calls, while the 5 megapixel sensor on the back is capable of recording full HD videos.

In terms of connectivity, iPad Mini comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band, Bluetooth, 4G LTE support and the new Lightning connector that debuted on the iPhone 5.

ZTE Testing Windows Phone 8 Phablet With 5.9-inch Full HD Display

ZTE might launch a Windows Phone 8-powered smartphone with a 5.8-inch display that supports full HD resolutions and that is optimized for multimedia.

The information was unveiled in a Weibo post (the Chinese equivalent of Twitter microblogging platform) by Lu Qian Hao, head for marketing strategy division within at. Still, the detail saying that the 5.9-inch display is capable of supporting full HD resolution raises some question marks over this product, as Microsoft didn’t announce that Windows Phone 8 will include support for this resolution in the current version of its mobile operating system.

Next to the full HD display with a record-size for the smartphone segment, the new Windows Phone 8-powered ZTE smartphone might also come with support for DTS, the audio technology used for the movies distributed on blu-ray platform. For the time being there are no details regarding the chipset underpinning the WP8 phablet. Even though there’s no info about its technical specifications, judging by the looks of the body case, the ZTE smartphone doesn’t seems to be a ready-to-launch product.

ZTE also confirmed the existence of another Windows Phone 8 smartphone, but didn’t revealed any of its technical specs.

If the rumors are accurate and the ZTE full HD 5.9-inch phablet will see the light of day, the product will hit the store shelves sometime in the spring, probably running an updated version of Windows Phone 8, with a user interface optimized for 1,920 x 1,080 pixel displays.

HTC Droid DNA With 5-inch 1080p Display Press Photo Leaked, Release Date Is December 3rd

I have to admit that I was expecting a lot of buzz to be created around the launch of the first smartphone with a 1080p display, HTC J Butterfly, but the public seems to have forgotten about it soon after it debuted in Japan.

Now everybody is expecting the US variant of the HTC J Butterfly, unofficially dubbed HTC Droid DNA, a smartphone retailed by Verizon. The 5-inch phablet had leaked before, but now we have some FCC confirmation, a release date and a press photo.

The picture above presents the HTC Droid DNA and it was posted on @evleaks Twitter account, the one responsible for a lot of unreleased terminal leaks, from Nokia Lumia 920 to ASUS Padfone 2.

There were some HTC Droid DNA-related rumors a couple of weeks ago, talking about Incredible X or HTC DLX codenames. Anyway, it seems that we are dealing with a 5-inch smartphone with a 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of RAM and, of course, Verizon branding. The speculation market claims that this model will pack LTE connectivity and that it will debut on December 6th.

Meanwhile, this smartphone that is situated at the border between smartphone and phablet payed a visit to FCC for some tests and approvals, so its existence was confirmed. It seems that HTC Droid DNA will come with 16 or 32 GB of internal storage and that it will sport a 2,500 mAh battery.

It seems that HTC Doroid DNA will have a price of $249 with a two-year agreement with Verizon, while others say that it might even cost $199. Unfortunately, this smartphone will not be up for the Black Friday deals, because the release date was set for December.

Sprint ZTE Flash launching Nov 11th for $130 with 12MP camera, S4 processor, 720p display [LEAK]

Leaked back in July, the Sprint ZTE Flash — carrying a 12MP camera, S4 processor, and 720p IPS display — was originally rumored for an October 14th launch date. Here were are in November with neither hide nor hair of the device, but it seems the launch has only slipped a little ways down the calendar, now slated for a November 11th release.

This newest leak comes from our very own tipster who was able to secure a few leaked screenshot of the device, along with low $130 pricing and newly expected launch date. Another point of interest is the fact that the Sprint Flash could be offering a stock Ice Cream Sandwich experience if the above screenshot is any indication, possibly with Sprint ID.

But, even with a fairly nice spec sheet and reasonable price tag, the ZTE Flash definitely has its work cut out for it. Also launching on November 11th is the LG Optimus G ($200) and its qwerty cousin, the LG Mach ($100). Sprint customers definitely have some good options this holiday season.
